Lakeview Medical Center has the capability to screen patients for osteoporosis at the Suffolk location. The Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry Densitometer (DEXA) is used to diagnose low bone density. It is a specialized X-ray device that precisely quantifies bone density in the spine, femur, and other skeletal sites.It can detect the presence of dangerous thinning when treatment can be useful before damage or fractures occur. DEXA scans are non-invasive and comfortable for the patient.
